Billing & Invoices
Memberships, recurring auto-billing, and dunning
Create membership plans, enroll customers, and optionally let WaterMark charge members' cards on file each cycle so you stop chasing recurring invoices.
Where: Grow section -> Memberships (New plan / Enroll customer); auto-billing under Company settings
- Open Memberships and click New plan. Name it, set a price and billing period (monthly, quarterly, or yearly), and an optional member discount.
- Choose the type: Term (a contract length you can extend, pause, or renew) or Visit credits (buy N visits, one used per completed visit).
- Click Enroll customer to put a customer on a plan.
- To turn on recurring auto-billing: open Company settings and check 'Auto-charge members' cards on file each cycle.' It's off by default and needs a connected payout account.
- Also check the dunning option so a customer whose card is declined gets an email with a link to update it. Declines retry on a backoff schedule.
Good to know
- Auto-billing is off by default because it moves customer money - turn it on only when you're ready. Enrolling in a recurring plan is the customer's authorization to be charged.
- With auto-billing off, memberships still generate invoices; you just collect them yourself.
- The dunning email requires a connected payout account and, of course, that email is set up for your company.
